What a proper service includes
A genuine service is more than a visual once-over: flue gas analysis, burner and heat exchanger inspection, seal checks, gas pressure check, and a safety device test. Expect 45–60 minutes. If an engineer is done in 15 minutes, that was not a service.
Book the service before the heating season if you can: October is when everyone turns the heating on at once and finds a fault. If it is already cold and the boiler is running, book it anyway — the check is the same one in January, and it keeps the boiler's service record current.
