Handyman questions, answered

What's the minimum job size?
There isn't one, but batching wins: one request for the whole list gets one price for one visit. Write your list — including the annoying two-minute ones — and share it in your request.
Will a handyman do electrical or gas jobs?
No — and be suspicious of any who offers. Swapping a light fitting or a socket like for like is not notifiable under Part P, but notifiable electrical work — a new circuit, a consumer unit replacement, or adding to or altering a circuit in a special location such as the space around a bath or shower — must be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme, or certified by a registered third-party certifier or a building control body, and the Hero Agreement requires an electrician to hold competent person scheme registration. Gas work is for a Gas Safe registered engineer — the law requires any business or self-employed person doing gas work to be registered, and the Hero Agreement requires it too. Describe the job in your request and we match the trade to it before anyone is assigned.
What is the minimum charge for a handyman?
There is no standard minimum charge for a handyman: each sets their own prices, and some charge a minimum or a call-out fee, so ask what a quote includes before you accept it. On London Heroes, Heroes set their own prices, including call-out charges and emergency premiums for urgent or out-of-hours work, and you see the full price before you pay — either from a Hero's quote, or set when our team matches a Hero and the Hero accepts it — and it can change only through a variation you approve in the app first.
