Emergencies, gas safety and urgent jobs
If you can smell gas: do not touch electrical switches, ventilate, leave the property, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 - free, 24 hours. For urgent repairs, requests are taken 24/7 at /emergency.
If you can smell gas, do this first
- Do not touch electrical switches. Not light switches, not sockets, not the doorbell.
- Open doors and windows to ventilate.
- Leave the property.
- Call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999, free and answered 24 hours a day.
Make that call before you book anything, including with us. It takes priority over everything else on this page.
Urgent repairs
For an urgent job that is not a gas emergency - a leak, no heat, a fuse box that keeps tripping, a door that will not lock - request help at /emergency. Urgent requests are taken 24 hours a day and dispatched to the nearest available verified Hero.
There is no platform emergency premium: London Heroes adds no fee or surcharge to an urgent job. Before you pay, you see the Hero and the total price - either from a Hero's quote, or set when our team matches a Hero and the Hero accepts it - and it can only change through a variation you approve in the app first. Out-of-hours work usually costs more than the same job during the day, though. Our cost guides show typical London price bands and state the basis of each one.
Response times depend on availability, location and job type. We will tell you honestly what we can do rather than promise an hour we cannot keep.
Gas and electrical work
Gas work is only accepted where an appropriately verified Gas Safe registered professional is available. Electrical work is subject to qualification and compliance checks before any Hero is assigned. Those two gates are why an urgent gas job is sometimes declined outright rather than accepted and then missed.
Before you call anyone out
Our symptom guides cover the faults Londoners search for before they know which trade they need - a boiler that will not fire, no hot water, a fuse box that keeps tripping - and each one sets out what is safe to check yourself, what not to do, and when it genuinely needs a professional.
